What is a satoshi?
A satoshi (or “sat”) is the smallest unit of bitcoin, named after its creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. One bitcoin equals 100,000,000 satoshi. In practice this means you never have to buy a whole coin – even a few euros buy thousands of sats, which is why people talk about “stacking sats” rather than buying bitcoins.
Where the rate comes from
The BTC/EUR rate is taken from public market data and refreshed continuously, typically once a minute. It is an indicative mid-market rate – the final price on an exchange or at a broker will differ slightly because of the spread and fees. Use the calculator for a quick overview, not as a binding quote.
Bitcoin and the euro
Bitcoin is priced globally mostly in US dollars, but if you live in the euro area, what matters is how many satoshi a given amount of euros buys.
